Aviation System Safety Engineer (Part-time/Consultant)
About the Job

Safety Research Corporation of America (SRCA) seeks a System Safety Engineer who will support one or more Intelligence Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR)-related program operations. The Systems Safety Engineer will demonstrate leadership and accountability for safety assessments in accordance with MIL-STD-882E. These assessments include the Systems Safety Program Plan, the Systems Safety Hazard Analysis Report, and the Safety Assessment Report.


This position serves as the safety domain support expert, and requires fluid knowledge of safety activities related to both the systems and sub-systems level related to aircraft, avionics, and surveillance mission equipment packages (MEP) used onboard manned aerial platforms.



The ideal candidate must also have familiarity with MIL-STD 1472G and its concepts of Human Engineering. Candidates should also understand the application of OSHA and EPA regulations/requirements as they pertain to hazardous materials and hazard analysis for onboard aircraft equipment. Familiarity with DCMA Instruction 8210.1, DA Pamphlet 738-751, AR 95-1, is preferred.Candidates can work remotely, frequent travel is required .


Responsibilities include:
Support and take direction from SRCA’s Senior Systems Safety Engineer and senior staff at SRCA.
Improve and maintain safety engineering processes and procedures that support the development of safety engineered aviation products and services.
Develop system safety programs IAW MIL-STD 882E to include, but not limited to, developing system safety plans, conducting system hazard analysis (and reports), providing risk assessment and systems safety assessments on aircraft (and systems) that are ongoing or under modification.
Conduct safety analysis and assessments at the system, subsystem and unit levels.
Support or lead system safety assessment, fault tree analysis, common mode analysis, functional failure path analysis, safety requirements development, developing safety program plans, functional hazard analysis and failure modes effects and criticality analysis.
Document safety related technical data of assigned projects, conforming engineering policies and procedures.
Provide timely communications on significant safety issues or developments.
Participate as a presenter or reviewer in technical/program reviews as a safety representative.
Application of Federal Aviation Regulations as they relate to certification, maintenance and operations.


Qualifications/Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline such as Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Computer Engineering/Sciences, Mathematics, Safety, or other related Engineering and Science fields from an accredited institution.
• Established expertise in safety analysis and assessment, safety requirements development, and report writing IAW MIL-STD-882E.
• Ability to interface effectively with all levels of the organization.
• Ability to obtain a Secret clearance.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.

Desired Characteristics

• Safety engineering experience through full development life cycles of aviation products.
• Established technology relationships with industry committees, universities, government agencies and other companies.
• Demonstrated experience in end-to-end safety assessment at system level.
• Familiarity with system/software/hardware design, verification and validation processes.
